A Rich History of Oil, Agriculture, and Music
The Founding
The city takes its name from Colonel Thomas Baker. He was a surveyor and a pioneer. In 1863, he created a field to water his livestock. This “Baker’s Field” became a resting spot for travelers. A settlement grew around it.
