The Wedding Singer, The Musical Comedy, The Colony Theatre Company, Burbank, CA

The Wedding Singer, based on the 1998 popular film starring Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, and Christine Taylor, recalls a time when hair was large, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer could be the coolest guy in the room.

The Colony Theatre (producing artistic director Heather Provost) has announced a new production of the musical comedy The Wedding Singer. Preview performances will be held on Thursday, June 5, and Friday, June 6, at 8 p.m., with the opening scheduled on Saturday, June 7, at 8 p.m. Through June 29, the usual performance schedule will be Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 and 7 p.m. The Wedding Singer opened on Broadway in 2006 and was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

This new production will be directed by nine-time Artios Award-winner Michael Donovan and choreographed by Michelle Elkin (Broadway’s Wonderland assistant choreographer, Sutton Foster Live, Young Sheldon, Younger, Sister Act). Brent Crayon (The Little Mermaid, It’s Only Life-world premiere, A Night With Janis Joplin-Broadway HD) is the musical director for The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Ragtime. Casting will be handled by Michael Donovan, CSA, and Richie Ferris, CSA, with the creative team to be named subsequently.

It’s 1985 in New Jersey, and rock star wannabe Robbie Hart is the state’s favorite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party, until his own fiancée abandons him at the altar. Robbie gets shot through the heart, making every wedding as terrible as his own. Enter Julia, a charming waitress who captures his heart. As luck would have it, Julia is going to marry a Wall Street shark, and, unless Robbie can pull off the performance Within a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone for good.

Heather Provost, Colony Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director, stated, “I’ve wanted to stage this show for a long time. The music is amazing; one of my favorite Broadway scores. We are happy to bring this performance to our stage and provide our fans with an opportunity to laugh while having a totally unique experience at our theatre. The formation of a creative all-star team is quite thrilling. This show will make everyone who sees it very happy.”

The Colony Theatre is situated at 555 N. Third Street (between Cypress and Magnolia) in Burbank, 91502. There is free on-site parking accessible.
