Southern Culture On The Skids has been actively recording and touring globally since 1983. The band members (Rick Miller – guitar and vocals, Mary Huff – bass and vocals, Dave Hartman – drums) have been collaborating for over three decades.
Their musical odyssey has led them from all-night house parties in North Carolina to late-night television talk shows (Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show), from performing at the foot of Mt. Fuji in Japan to entertaining inmates at North Carolina correctional facilities. They have shared the stage with numerous musical icons including Link Wray, Loretta Lynn, Hasil Adkins, and Patti Smith. Their music has appeared in films and television, been parodied by Weird Al, and utilized to market a variety of products from diamonds to pork sausage. In 2014, the band received recognition from the Southern Folklife Collection at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, which hosted an exhibition highlighting their musical and cultural contributions. Their legendary live performances exemplify the therapeutic effects of foot-stomping, butt-shaking rock and roll, which Rolling Stone referred to as “a hell raising rock and roll party.”
