For the band hailing from Kalamazoo, Michigan, this name signifies more than just an identity; it represents the bond that has kept them united throughout college and the peculiar journey of transitioning into adulthood. Whether they are addressing the exhaustion from touring or the discomfort of outgrowing their past, they consistently choose to embrace sincerity over irony, opting for a much bolder approach.
On their forthcoming second full-length album, these things happen (set to release on September 12), saturdays at your place build upon the elements that made their earlier work resonate—sparkling guitars, heartfelt songwriting, and a distinctly Midwestern sentiment—and expand it into something even more impactful. Formed by three friends who crossed paths at Western Michigan University, the band—Esden Stafne (vocals/bass), Gabe Wood (vocals/drums), and Mitch Gulish (guitar)—has always utilized music as a means to navigate the tumultuous journey of growing up. However, on these things happen, they have ceased to seek guidance and have begun to carve their own path through the disorder. The outcome is a sincere, emotionally turbulent, and self-reflective exploration of adulthood in all its intricate forms.
