The Dead Boys are a punk rock band originating from Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.[1] They were part of the initial wave of punk music and are often considered one of the most unruly and aggressive bands of that time. The group was established in 1975 by vocalist Stiv Bators, rhythm guitarist Jimmy Zero, bassist Jeff Magnum, lead guitarist Cheetah Chrome, and drummer Johnny Blitz, with the latter two having previously been members of Rocket From The Tombs. The original lineup of the Dead Boys produced two studio albums: Young, Loud and Snotty, and We Have Come for Your Children.

The Dead Boys were primarily active from 1975 until 1980, with a few brief reunions in the mid-1980s, and later again in 2004 and 2005, marking their first performances without Bators, who passed away in 1990. In September 2017, Chrome and Blitz reformed the band with a new lineup to celebrate their 40th anniversary, which included a new album titled Still Snotty: Young, Loud and Snotty at 40, a re-recording of their debut album. This new lineup featured vocalist Jake Hout, guitarist Jason “Ginchy” Kottwitz, and bassist Ricky Rat, alongside Chrome and Blitz. Hout departed in November 2024 due to disagreements over plans for a new Dead Boys album that would incorporate AI-generated vocals of Bators.
