Veera, The Origins of Courage, Central Park Performance Pavillion, Fremont, CA
The spectacular debut of the world’s first Carnatic-Baroque dance opera. APICC’s 2025 United States of Asian America Festival.
Welcome to Veera (“Courage”).
Join us at Central Park’s Performance Pavilion for an evening of music, dance, and fun! Veera is a celebration of culture and community’s ability to instill courage, perseverance, and strength.
Set against the serene background of Lake Elizabeth, the words of renowned Indian social reformers and pioneering female opera composers are brought to life by breathtaking live musical accompaniment. This isn’t your typical Bharatanatyam/Carnatic performance; it’s an immersive experience in the open air.
The Modern Natya Company delivers this serious, family-friendly look at how ethnic traditions educate us about equitable leadership, community, and taking care of one another.
So gather your friends and family, pack a picnic blanket, and join us for an unforgettable evening at Central Park (or online)!
Pre-registration through Eventbrite is necessary.
In-person seating is limited to the first 200 attendees. Please RSVP online ahead of time and come punctually.
Veera was created by The Modern Natya Company (a Swetha Prabakaran Productions production), with funding from Interfaith America’s Center for Cultural Innovation and Voices of Bhakti Fellowship. The IMPACT Genesis Residency funded earlier versions of the work.
This event is co-presented by the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center (APICC) as part of the 28th annual United States of Asian America Festival , which is made possible thanks to the National Endowment for the Arts, San Francisco Arts Commission Grants for the Arts, Fleishhacker Foundation, and other generous supporters.
