Tony Yazbeck, Samueli Theater, Costa Mesa, CA
Some people are born entertainers. Tony Yazbeck might be Broadway’s archetypal song and dance man! Tony, who last appeared in our A Fabulous 50th: Broadway’s Most Legendary Season revue, returns to our Cabaret Series with his timeless charm and style!
Tony was only four years old when he saw Fred Astaire perform on a black and white TV screen, and he danced about the living room, replicating those steps so effectively that his parents enrolled him in dance class right away.
At the age of 11, he starred in his first Broadway production, Gypsy, alongside Tyne Daly. He has been entertaining audiences with his singing and dancing ever since!
Tony recently played Cary Grant in the new musical Flying Over Sunset, which premiered on Broadway at Lincoln Center Theatre. He is best recognized for his work on the revival of On the Town, for which he received the Astaire Award and was nominated for Tony, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle honors for his outstanding performance. He also appeared in the Susan Stroman/Harold Prince-directed Japan and Broadway productions of Prince of Broadway, for which he got the Chita Rivera Award, as well as Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations. He also played J.M. Barrie in the Broadway play Finding Neverland and Billy Flynn in the film Chicago!
You may also recognize him from his numerous television and film credits, which include American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez (as legendary coach Urban Meyer), The Good Fight, Billions, Smash, and the feature documentary Every Little Step, which follows the casting process for the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line in 2006.
Don’t miss the Broadway veteran’s riveting one-man show, in which he invites audiences to accompany him on an honest, emotional journey through life’s ups and downs, recounted via the lyrics of classic show tunes, new classics, and dazzling tap dance.
