Following a passionate overture by Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz, this concert focuses on two of the most significant voices in classical music. At its essence, Beethoven’s second piano concerto is an elegant and charming composition from the Classical era, yet it features delightful and innovative surprises that foreshadow his later Romantic influences. Conversely, Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2 is entirely Romantic in nature. This orchestral masterpiece is filled with profoundly beautiful melodies, rich orchestral textures, and intense emotions.
The Colburn Orchestra is generously supported by Eva and Marc Stern.
