Stanford Viennese Ball, San Francisco, CA

Come celebrate the 47th Stanford Viennese Ball on February 21, 2025 at the Marriott Marquis for an evening of dancing, music, and entertainment!

The Stanford Viennese Ball is an annual event fashioned after the beautiful balls of Vienna, Austria. For nearly 50 years, the ball has brought together both dancers and non-dancers for a night of dancing, performances, and lasting memories. This is your opportunity to dress up, participate in a famous Stanford tradition, and practice some dancing routines – or simply enjoy the show!

The Stanford Viennese Ball was formed in 1978 by students who studied abroad in Vienna and returned home with the energy and passion of the Austrian ball season. The Viennese Balls often begin with a grandiose opening ceremony involving honored dignitaries, costumed dancers, and gorgeously dressed young couples performing an elegant, choreographed dance. Stanford’s inaugural Viennese Ball, held in Toyon Hall, was attended by 350 students. Since then, the ball has evolved into a prestigious formal event hosted in gorgeous off-campus ballrooms. The 47th Annual Viennese Ball will be held on February 21, 2025, at the Marriott Marquis in San Francisco.

Our event has sold out for the past few years. Purchase your tickets immediately to secure your seat!

The Viennese Ball is first and foremost an occasion for celebration and enjoyment with friends. While the ball emphasizes social dancing (think waltz, swing, salsa, and so on), you don’t have to be a skilled dancer to have a wonderful time. There is always something for everyone to enjoy, including performances, live music, contests, a picture booth, sweets, and more. This is a Stanford custom that most students participate in at least once during their time at Stanford. Every year, dancers from various social dance communities in the Bay Area (and beyond!) gather for one of the premier Viennese Balls hosted outside of Vienna!

The Opening Ceremony will take place at 8:30 p.m., followed by performances by the Opening Committee, Cardinal Ballet Company, Stanford Swingtime, The Academy of Danse Libre, and more!

We warmly anticipate your presence.
