Sonia De Los Santos, Samueli Theater, Costa Mesa, CA
Sonia De Los Santos was born with a smile on her face (according to her mother) in Monterrey, Mexico, and has been singing in Spanish and English for audiences of all ages since 2007, when she joined the Grammy Award®-winning group Dan Zanes and Friends.
“One of the Latin Children’s music artists you should know” – Billboard
It’s difficult not to grin when she talks about her favorite things: migrating birds, friendship, chocolate, and stories of growing up in Mexico and fulfilling her childhood ambition of arriving to New York. Her songs draw inspiration from Latin American rhythms such as huapango, cumbia, salsa, and festejo, as well as North American folk traditions from the United States.
Sonia has been nominated for a Latin Grammy® and hailed by Billboard as “one of the Latin Children’s Music artists you should know” and “Best Latin Children’s Music”, and she has earned special recognition with her band, performing at renowned venues and festivals such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, The Getty Museum, The National Gallery of Art, The Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and many more. In 2020, Sonia created En Casa con Sonia, an online musical series taped from her house. In 2021, she premiered ¿Qué Pasa, Sonia?, a radio feature featuring some of her favorite songs on Sirius XM’s Kids Place Live.
Sonia has also performed with the Grammy Award®-winning Americana folk duet The Okee Dokee Brothers in Somos Amigos, a bilingual presentation that demonstrates the power of singing together and learning from one another.
Sonia’s most recent work includes the creation of three illustrated multilingual children’s books based on her songs, which will be published in the coming years by Norton Young Readers, the famed W.W. Norton children’s imprint. The first novel, La Golondrina, will be published in 2026.
