Renowned singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson has enjoyed a career that spans more than four decades filled with numerous hits.
He has garnered a variety of accolades, such as the GRAMMY Living Legend Award, the NARAS Lifetime Achievement Award, an Honorary Doctorate from Howard University, the Kennedy Center Honors, and the National Medal of Arts Award presented by the President of the United States. Additionally, he has been inducted into both the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame.
Raised in Detroit, Michigan, Robinson established The Miracles while he was still a high school student. This group was the first vocal ensemble of Berry Gordy, and it was upon Robinson’s recommendation that Gordy initiated the Motown Record empire. Their rendition of Robinson’s In addition to crafting hits for the Miracles, Robinson also wrote and produced successful tracks for other Motown legends, such as The Temptations, Mary Wells, Brenda Holloway, Marvin Gaye, and more. Notable among his songwriting achievements during that period are “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” “My Girl,” “Get Ready,” “You Beat Me to the Punch,” “Don’t Mess with Bill,” “Ain’t That Peculiar,” and “My Guy.” He subsequently embarked on a solo career, maintaining his legacy of chart-topping hits with songs like “Just to See Her,” “Quiet Storm,” “Cruisin’,'” and “Being with You,” among others.
He held the position of Vice President at Motown Records until the company’s sale, playing a pivotal role in the label’s success alongside his friend and mentor Berry Gordy. After his time at Motown, he continued his remarkable touring career and released several successful solo albums. Recently, Robinson contributed as a singer and co-writer on the certified gold track “Make It Better” from Anderson Paak’s album Ventura, and in 2023, he released his latest album of original music titled Gasms through TLR Music Group/ADA. In 2024, Smokey launched his own channel on SiriusXM named “Smokey’s SoulTown,” which features soul music from the 1960s and 1970s, along with interviews, live performances, and call-ins.
The year 2025 will commemorate the 50th ANNIVERSARY of his groundbreaking 1975 album, A Quiet Storm. His tour, the “Smokey Legacy Tour,” will celebrate this milestone as well as showcase all of his greatest hits from across the decades.
Over his 60+ year music career, Robinson has amassed more than 4,000 songs to his name and continues to captivate sold-out audiences around the globe with his soaring tenor voice, impeccable timing, and deep understanding of lyricism and style.
