Mahler Chamber Orchestra, The Soraya, CSUN, Northridge, CA
Yuja Wang, piano and director, Matthew Truscott, concertmaster and leader
Yuja Wang makes her long-awaited return to The Soraya, following her debut in 2016. Since then, she has established herself as one of the world’s most renowned artists. Wang picked Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2, which is consistent with her recent interest on the composer. Wang is joined by her usual collaborator, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, a pan-European ensemble formed to tour the world, having performed in over 40 countries. The orchestra will also perform Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1, dubbed the “Classical Symphony” due to Prokofiev’s desire to style his early work after Mozart and Haydn.
