Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and Gianluca Ginoble made their initial appearance in 2009 as solo contestants on the talent show Ti lascio una canzone, broadcast on the Italian television channel RAI 1. It was here that they caught the attention of Michele Torpedine, the manager known for launching the careers of Andrea Bocelli, Zucchero, Giorgia, and Biagio Antonacci. He chose to collaborate with them on their international artistic journey, recognizing their remarkable vocal abilities both as individuals and as a trio. In a remarkably brief period, they achieved the distinction of being the first Italian artists in history to secure a contract with a major American record label, Geffen Records.
Their self-titled debut album, Il Volo (2010), achieved platinum status and made its way into the U.S. Billboard Top Ten. They graced numerous prominent television programs in both Europe and America, such as The Tonight Show, American Idol, Good Morning America, the Today Show, Watten Das in Germany, and the MDA Labor DAY Telethon hosted by Jerry Lewis. Additionally, they participated alongside UNICEF at the Venice Film Festival, focusing on children in the Horn of Africa.
With over a million copies sold of their Special Christmas Edition (2010), coupled with their inaugural international tour and the airing of their first television specials (which have been broadcast over a thousand times), they ascended to the status of global superstars!
Il Volo is set to return to some of the most prestigious theaters across the United States on this tour, showcasing a performance that fuses their signature classics with the acts that have characterized their international journey in bel canto.
On August 2, 2025, Il Volo performed in Rome in the presence of Pope Leo XIV during the Giubileo dei Giovani, providing a profound moment of spiritual reflection that resonated significantly with the thousands of young individuals assembled in the city.
The trio also participated in “Grace for the World,” a unique global peace initiative that brought together international artists such as Pharrell Williams, Karol G, Andrea Bocelli, John Legend, and many others to convey a powerful message of unity through music, delivering an intimate performance that further solidified their status as cultural ambassadors of Italian vocal excellence.
Another significant highlight of 2025 was their recent performance at the ATP Finals 2025 in Turin, where they inaugurated the event with a stirring rendition of the Italian National Anthem before a sold-out arena and millions of viewers around the globe.
