Gilman Jazz Festival, Not Loud Concerts, Gilman Brewing Company, Berkeley, CA

On May 3 at the Gilman Brewing Company in Berkeley, the team from Not Loud Concerts will host the Gilman Jazz Festival. This event is part of the Not Loud Concert Summer Series – a collection of concerts intended to be not too lengthy, not too costly, and certainly not too loud.

Three incredible jazz bands, one afternoon. Comfortable, enjoyable, and not loud!

With the audience’s comfort as a priority, this brief festival will take place in the outdoor space behind Gilman Brewing. There, two local bands and one internationally touring group will deliver lively and enjoyable jazz as it is meant to be experienced – in a relaxed and informal setting.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, although chairs will also be provided. There will be ample space for dancing as well as seating. While there will be no porta-potties, there will be plenty of clean, indoor restrooms.

The festival will be headlined by the Death and Taxes Swing Band, a 1940s-style ensemble known for their danceable and entertaining big band jazz. Renowned for their extensive travels, from Indonesia to Portugal, and their lively on-stage performances, this group revitalizes the joy of jazz. Prior to their performance, a brief introductory swing lesson will be offered.

The festival will also showcase Parlor Tricks, an industrial-themed ragtime jazz band. Celebrated for their captivating syncopation and energetic performances, Parlor Tricks brings the sounds of the Prohibition era and beyond.

Kicking off the afternoon will be a short set by the Cal State East Bay Jazz Band, a group with a rich history of nurturing future jazz musicians in the Bay Area.

Not Loud Concerts is dedicated to crafting an experience that is both casual and enjoyable for musicians and audiences alike. The concerts are consistently not too lengthy, not too expensive, and, of course, never too loud.
