Bio: Eva Yerbabuena
Dancer, choreographer, and artistic director
Eva Yerbabuena, born in Germany and raised in Ogíjares, Granada, comes from a family with strong Andalusian traditions. Eva was raised by her grandparents, Encarna and Luis, in a rural atmosphere that valued both tradition and knowledge. Her early existence was impacted by the spirit of Andalusia, a place rich in history and philosophy. Her love of flamenco began in childhood, thanks to her supportive family, particularly her aunt Encarnita, who noticed her artistic abilities.

Eva and her parents relocated to Spain when she was eight years old. By the age of 11, she had begun flamenco training and had exceptional promise. After training in several places, including a key time in Seville, she founded her own company in 1998 at the age of 28, soon acquiring international renown.

Eva’s career has been highlighted by various prizes and global appearances. She was the first flamenco troupe to perform at the Sydney Opera House and has appeared on stages around the world, including the Teatro de la Villa in Paris, Sadler’s Wells in London, the City Center in New York, and locations from Tokyo to Dubai. Her work has been influenced by notable instructors such as Mario Maya and Enrique “El Canastero,” and she has worked with artists such as Mario Maya, Merche Esmerelda, and Joaquin Cortés.

Eva’s contributions to flamenco extend beyond the stage, including performances at the Bienal de Sevilla and Teatro Español, as well as collaborations with directors such Carlos Saura in the film Flamenco. Eva returned to the stage with the popular show AY! in 2012, following a brief absence for maternity, and continues to captivate audiences in London with Apariencias in 2017.

Eva Yerbabuena is still one of the most influential and respected personalities in contemporary flamenco, renowned for her profound creativity and pioneering choreography.
