About Esperanza Spalding
Esperanza Spalding is a five-time GRAMMY® Award-winning artist. Her artistic endeavors blend various elements of instrumental music, improvisation, vocal performance, composition, poetry, dance, therapeutic research, storytelling, education, and the stewardship of restorative urban land and artist sanctuaries. She is the founder and co-director of Prismid Sanctuary, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating and managing restorative artist residency and workshop spaces in Portland, Oregon. Through her dance initiative “Off Brand gOdds” and the Songwrights Apothecary Lab (S.A.L.), she conducts multi-week performances, workshops, and residencies focused on teaching and therapeutic arts research. In recognition of her contributions, she has been awarded the 2024 Doris Duke Foundation Artist Award and was named a 2016 Ford Foundation “Art of Change” Fellow.
