Babe Rainbow, Fonda Theatre, Los Angeles, CA | Aug 23, 2025

Babe Rainbow are a stoner pop band from Australia noted for their boogie psychedelia and throwback surf cult imagery.

Established in 2015 in Rainbow Bay by kiosk lurkers Jack Crowther aka Cool Breeze, Angus Dowling, and Elliot O’Reilly. The three formerly worked for local grower John Cutts in Duranbah, New South Wales, near Tropical Fruit World. John and the crew were churning out kale long before it was hip. “We’ve seen plenty of vegetables go in and out of fashion” according to Angus.

Initially rooted in 60s psych and 70s French surf pop, the Babe’s musical style has evolved throughout their career, incorporating elements of woodland bop and disco, dub, and, more recently, dance and international groove, while maintaining an Aquarian quality built on Dowling’s spacemen singing style and Cool Breeze’s chiming effects-based guitar sounds.

Babe created and produced their debut album, “The Babe Rainbow EP,” in a secondhand bookstore in Murwillumbah, which was quickly picked up by national broadcaster triple J and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard label Flightless Records. In 2017, they published their debut album, produced by Stu Mackenzie, and embarked on international support tours with King Gizzard, Allah Las, Tomorrows Tulips, and French synth wave band La Femme.

30th Century / Columbia signed Babe Rainbow’s debut album. “Double Rainbow” (2018) was followed by “Today” (2019). Miles Myjavec, a Wollongong surfer, joined on drums around this period. Babe Rainbow now owns all of their masters and future releases, including album four, ‘Changing Colours,’ which was the band’s first release on their own label, EUREKA Music.
