An epic evolutionary story spanning 65 million years. In the airy, light-filled two-story Ahmanson Hall, you can witness the evolution of mammals across dramatically changing climates and continents.

Interactive kiosks and hundreds of specimens showcase mammals’ incredible adaptations, from the horse’s single toe to the tiger’s famed stripes.

As you explore, you will:
Identify enigmatic fossils and extract them from the rock using our interactive kiosks.
Stand as high as possible to compare your height with that of a grizzly bear.
Discover how Southern California transformed from a swamp to a sea and then to scrubland over the course of 40 million years, and understand the implications of this evolution for the mammals that inhabited the region.
