Common Ground Workshop on Immigration, Los Angeles, CA
Equal percentages of Reds and Blues dig deep into immigration to identify shared and unanimous points of agreement.
Note: The Promo Code “Braver” allows for free registration. You will not need any real or virtual tickets to attend this event.
Join us for an in-person Common Ground Immigration Workshop.
In June 2024, the Braver Angels National Convention agreed to address the problem of immigration in the coming year with the goal of finding some tangible areas of consensus that can persuade our political leaders to take the required measures toward a common vision of progress. The findings from this Los Angeles workshop will be gathered and incorporated into a national report for publication.
The Braver Angels Common Ground Workshop brings together an equal number of Conservatives and Liberals, or Reds and Blues (4-8 of each), for a thorough dive into a subject. Participants discuss their connection to the issue and their perspectives on potential solutions. By the end of the event, they had reached unified and unanimous points of agreement on values, issues, and policies. Points of agreement can be filled out at future group meetings, and if practicable, will lead to collaborative actions such as op-eds, joint speaking, and visits with politicians.
Goals:
To investigate a specific issue where citizens dispute, and discover how each other sees the situation.
Define areas of common ground and points of agreement
To learn something that could be helpful to others in our community and the nation.
Logistics:
There are two methods to attend a Common Ground Workshop:
Participant: A participant will engage in small- and large-group discussions with people of various political beliefs. Participants must identify as either “red” (Republican or leaning conservative) or “blue” (Democrat or leaning liberal). We will aim for an equal number of red and blue participants: 4 to 8 on each side.
Observer/Alternate: An observer/alternate will be able to monitor and listen to the debates without directly participating. Observers/Alternates should be prepared to step in and participate as their “color” in the event of participant cancellations. Allowing up to 15 Observers/Alternates in places with a geographical “color” imbalance allows more people to experience a Common Ground workshop.
Who can attend? Anyone who wants to have a better understanding of and connect with others who hold different political ideas than they do. You should be able to honestly say “yes” to the following question:
“Are you willing to listen to the other side, and are you willing to speak to the other side with respect?”
Everyone who registers up will get an email from the organizer. Organizers reserve the right to move anyone from Participant to Observer/Alternate status based on the needs of the session.
*Tickets are free, but donations help. Use the promo code BRAVER when registering to receive a free ticket. Beyond the free ticket, donations help Braver Angels, a 501(c)3.
