Black History Month Community Performance, Forest Lawn, Glendale, CA
Celebrate Black History Month in advance by attending Forest Lawn’s complimentary, one-night-only event on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:30 PM.
In collaboration with producer Charles Lane, Forest Lawn will showcase African American culture and experiences through an engaging program featuring music, dance, and poetry performed by a talented group of singers and dancers accompanied by a five-piece band. The event will also include a keynote address by Steven Lewis, a distinguished architect and advocate for social justice, along with an inspiring presentation by Zach Andrews, the Diversity Apprenticeship Program Director at The Broad. The evening will be narrated by Michael Ellington. Prior to the performance, attendees can enjoy a community resource and networking fair that includes local education, health, housing, and volunteer organizations, as well as complimentary refreshments and beverages.
The Black History Month event at Forest Lawn is scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:30 PM, taking place in the Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection at Forest Lawn–Glendale, located at 1712 S. Glendale Avenue, Glendale, CA 91205. Doors will open at 4:00 PM for the resource fair and pre-show reception, which will feature refreshments, music, and prizes, leading up to the performance that begins at 6:00 PM. The Forest Lawn Museum’s exhibition titled “In Bloom: Flowers in Contemporary Art” will be available for viewing at the adjacent Forest Lawn Museum until 5:00 PM. This exhibition delves into modern interpretations of the enduring floral motif. The media and artworks showcased in the exhibition exhibit a wide range, including paintings, sculptures, installations, and videos that span from naturalistic to abstract styles, as well as from whimsical to reflective tones. “In Bloom” highlights the creations of artists such as David Flores, DABSMYLA, Francesca Gabbiani, Eddie Ruscha, Simonette David Jackson, Jasmyn Marie, Analia Saban, Kim Schoen, and Tiffanie Turner, featuring new pieces from the majority of these artists.
