Historical Journey: Six Decades of Joyful Innovation

The Early Years (1961-1990s)

Opened on April 15, 1961 as part of San Jose’s municipal park system.
Original attractions include Danny the Dragon train and the Little Dipper roller coaster.
1980s expansion: Added the Endangered Species Carousel and puppet theater.

Modern Transformation (2000s-Present)

2008–2010: $72 million repair and expansion

Rebuilt 70% of the facilities.
Added new zoo habitats.
Developed eco-friendly infrastructure.

In 2015, we achieved AZA accreditation for our animal care standards.
