History of The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch

Luther Gage started cultivating in the 1920s. He cultivated ranunculus in Oceanside. Edwin Frazee relocated the property to Carlsbad during the 1960s. The Ecke family held the property. Paul Ecke Jr. made it available for tourists.

By 1975, it had become a popular attraction. The fields developed become a springtime tradition. They will be over 60 years old in 2025. Their past is related to Carlsbad’s heritage.

Renovations and Transformations Over the Years

The fields have developed since the 1960s. Paths were created for guests. The Sweet Pea Maze debuted in the 2000s. Greenhouses were created specifically for orchids. In 2025, a Butterfly Encounter emerged. Ramps for accessibility were added. New tractors improve wagon journeys. Upgrades emphasize family pleasure. The fields remain sustainable.
