History and Significance

Waller Park was established in 1927 with 77.29 acres from the Santa Maria Golf & Country Club. It was named after Mayor Clarence Waller and grew to 154 acres. In 1942, Tony Estacio converted the sandy dunes into a green park. He planted trees and flowers, which contributed to the beauty we see today. By 1949, Estacio and his wife Josie were living on-site and caring for the park.

“Tony’s Zoo” featuring monkeys and peacocks was added by the Noontime Rotary, but it is no longer there. The Santa Barbara County Parks Department currently maintains the park. Friends of Waller Park, a non-profit organization, promotes upgrades.
