History of Santa Clara University

Founded on October 12, 1851, as Santa Clara College by Fathers John Nobili and Michael Accolti, Santa Clara University began as a small Jesuit college for boys. Built on the grounds of Mission Santa Clara de Asís, which was founded in 1777. The school became a university in 1912 with an expanded curriculum.
